The Rockland Community College Foundation is proud to announce the Fellows Hymowitz Rice Scholarship, a significant award designed to empower RCC students who have demonstrated remarkable resilience and academic accomplishment while facing adversity and financial need. This scholarship recognizes that success comes in many forms, and we celebrate the strength and determination of students who have overcome challenges to pursue their education.
The Fellows Hymowitz Rice Scholarship provides a $2,500 award to one deserving student, alleviating the financial burdens associated with higher education. The scholarship aims to contribute meaningfully towards tuition, books, and other educational expenses. The award may be continued in the Fall semester.
Students seeking the Fellows Hymowitz Rice Scholarship must fulfill the following criteria:
To apply, students should craft a well-written essay (similar to a personal statement) reflecting on their experiences and demonstrating how they have triumphed over obstacles to thrive at RCC. This essay should not merely list hardships but rather showcase the student’s strengths, growth, and commitment to their education. This essay serves as the primary basis for selection and should be a testament to the student’s unique story.
The RCC Foundation partners with the Financial Aid Office to award scholarships. Please email scholarships@sunyrockland.edu or contact the Financial Aid Office at 845-574-4282 for assistance to apply.
The selection committee will holistically evaluate each application, focusing on the substance and impact of the student’s essay, demonstrated financial need, academic record, and overall demonstration of resilience. The scholarship recipient will be notified by the end of February. All applicants will be notified of the final decision. The recipient will have a photo opportunity to commemorate the award.
This scholarship, administered through the Rockland Community College Foundation, seeks to support deserving students in their pursuit of higher education. It values the strength of character and resilience demonstrated by students who persevere despite facing adversity and financial hardship, reflecting the core values of the Rockland Community College community. There is no residency requirement to apply.
We look forward to receiving your applications and supporting the next generation of resilient RCC scholars!
